Cauca is the 4th producing department nationwide, with more than 90,000 coffee-growing families, most of which have an average of less than 1 hectare of coffee, this is equivalent to 5 to 6 thousand coffee trees per farm. Its population is mainly indigenous, there are descendants of at least 20 different tribes that still preserve a large part of the ancient traditions that incorporate coffee production which is always carried out with a deep respect for nature.
This department is located on the Andes Mountains in the Colombian Massif, a mountainous formation in which the mountain range is divided into eastern and western branches. The terrain is very steep and rugged, which makes cultivation tasks a challenge. There are different volcanoes such as Puracé and Sotara which gave rise to the soils of this region, providing great natural fertility that allows coffee to develop very well with a very low level of use of agricultural inputs and facilitates the expression of very attributes. Fine in the cup, the sweet caramel notes stand out mainly.
